Thanks to Ravichandran Ashwin’s century and his impressive 199-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, India was all out for a competitive 376 on the second day of the opening Test against Bangladesh in Chennai on Friday.
Akash Deep sent two back in successive overs, including the opener Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque. The first wicket arrived after a full-length delivery at 138.4 km/h as it uprooted the middle stump. Next ball on the trot, however, Akash Deep continued to be aggressive and an inside edge off Haque’s bat rattled behind him.
It was Jasprit Bumrah who first drew India’s blood as he sent back Shadman Islam for two off six balls coming around the stumps, pitching the ball outside off, and it just slid straight on to knock down off stump.
Bangladesh started the day at 339/6, and India lost all four remaining wickets for the addition of just 37 runs. Jadeja (86) was the first to fall. Ashwin added just 11 runs from his overnight score of 102 before falling, dismissed by Taskin Ahmed for 113.
The Bangladesh pacer took three wickets (3/55)—Jadeja, Ashwin, and Akash Deep—while Hasan Mahmud was the standout bowler, claiming five wickets for 83 runs. Bangladesh was at 26/3 at lunch.
