The BCCI faces controversy over its reluctance to include “Pakistan” on India’s Champions Trophy kits, with the ICC insisting on compliance as per tournament rules.
New Delhi: The BCCI is enveloped in fresh controversy about its present reluctance to include Pakistan in the Indian team’s Champions Trophy kits as per tournament logo demands. As per media reports, the BCCI is against featuring Pakistan, claiming host nation regulations, which include India playing its matches in Dubai instead. In response, the International Cricket Council has reportedly reiterated authorities’ burgeoning sentiment to the effect that Team India must display Pakistan on their kits since Pakistan is the original host of the tournament.
“It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule,” an ICC official said as per A-Sports.
The ICC reported that strict action may be taken against the Indian team if they don’t wear the Champions Trophy logo, which includes “Pakistan,” the host country name, on their kits.
According to ICC norms, all teams are required to have the host country’s name printed on their jerseys, regardless of where the matches are being played.
It has been reported by IANS that BCCI is not comfortable with “Pakistan” printed on the jerseys of the team; however, the Pakistan Cricket Board has apparently denied the receipt of any official communication with regard to this from the Indian board.
The high tension between PCB and BCCI reached its peak in the last few months after the Indian board refused to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. A compromise was finally reached between the two parties, although the BCCI, one way or another, may also be finding itself under heavy pressure in the coming years when India is to host a couple of ICC events.
