New Delhi: Jordan Murray is eager to flourish under Khalid Jamil at Jamshedpur FC in the upcoming Indian Super Leagu (ISL), stating the Indian tactician allows him to play his free-flowing game. The Australian striker re-signed for the Men in Steel on a one-year contract, having played a vital role in Jamshedpur FC’s triumphant 2021-22 shield-winning campaign.

Murray’s comeback will be a significant boost for the club and in line with head coach Jamil’s ambitions to continue and strengthen the squad ahead of the ISL 2024-25 season. Murray last played with Chennaiyin FC in the ISL 2023-24 season with crucial contributions in their journey to playoffs.

He is well-experienced in India with a significant record of 18 goals and five assists in three seasons. “One of the main reasons I came here was not just only because of the club, it was also because of coach Khalid,” Murray told reporters during a virtual interaction.

The 28-year-old admitted that he was intrigued by Jamil’s thought process. “He’s someone that I was intrigued by, with his plan and the way he wants to play football, allowing me to play my free-flowing game. He’s very much a confidence coach, which I’m very grateful for because obviously, football is also a lot of confidence as well as being confident in your own ability,” he added.

Asked what conversations he had with Jamil since his homecoming, Murray said, “It’s only been two weeks or so of me being at the club. So, I’ve got so much more to learn about his philosophy of football and the way he wants to play.” A former striker at Central Coast Mariners at the A-League, Murray was also impressed with the young talent in the squad.

Notably, Murray was one of the 10 arrivals in the squad ahead of the upcoming season. Speaking on the young talents in the squad, the Australian was quite impressed. “I’ve been really impressed. A lot of young players come through and you’ve seen some really good players, you see some really good individual brilliance and great goals,” he added.
