Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah reunite in the MCC World Cricket Connects Advisory Board, replacing the former World Cricket Committee. Discover how their expertise, alongside other cricketing greats, will shape the future of global cricket through regular discussions and key recommendations.
New Delhi: Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah, the former secretary of the BCCI, are once again working together in the cricketing world. The duo, who previously served as president and secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), have now joined the prestigious MCC World Cricket Connects Advisory Board.
Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah have both been appointed as members of the new MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) World Cricket Connects Advisory Board. This new advisory body replaces the old World Cricket Committee. Shah, who had previously not been involved with the World Cricket Connects Forum launched by the MCC, now finds himself as a founding member of this newly formed council. Kumar Sangakkara, the former MCC president, leads this 13-member advisory board.
The Significance of the Advisory Board
The MCC also announced that the second World Cricket Connects Forum will be held in June at Lord’s, just before the World Test Championship final. The event aims to bring together prominent figures from the cricketing world to discuss key issues affecting the sport. MCC’s chairman, Mark Nicholas, expressed excitement about welcoming influential cricketing minds to discuss important matters.
The newly formed advisory board consists of some of the brightest cricketing minds from across the world. Apart from Ganguly and Shah, notable members include Graeme Smith, Andrew Strauss, Heather Knight, and Sanjog Gupta, CEO (Sports) at JioStar. Mark Nicholas emphasized the importance of having such experienced individuals to help shape the future of global cricket.
Replacing the World Cricket Committee
The new advisory council replaces the World Cricket Committee, which, though not formally empowered, had a significant influence on cricketing decisions. Several important changes in the game, such as the introduction of DRS (Decision Review System), the World Test Championship, the Day-Night Pink Ball Test matches, and the Slow Over Rate Time Out, were initiated based on recommendations from the World Cricket Committee.
Regular Meetings for the Advisory Board
The advisory board members will meet regularly throughout the year and hold an annual meeting to discuss improvements and ideas for the betterment of cricket. Their goal is to contribute to cricket’s growth by examining various aspects of the sport and suggesting changes as needed.
