India and England gear up for an eight-match white-ball series starting January 22, with Jos Buttler chasing Virat Kohli’s T20I record and both teams seeking momentum ahead of major tournaments.
New Delhi: India and England are set to reignite their long-standing cricket rivalry with an exciting series of eight white-ball matches. The series will commence with five T20 Internationals (T20Is), followed by three One Day Internationals (ODIs), starting from January 22 in Kolkata.
England’s captain, Jos Buttler, is on the brink of making history as he chases Virat Kohli’s record in T20Is. Currently the second-highest run-scorer in India-England T20Is with 498 runs, Buttler is just 151 runs shy of overtaking Kohli’s impressive tally of 648 runs.
The upcoming series holds significance as Buttler and his team look to avenge their defeat in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against India. In contrast, India’s Rohit Sharma, who has 467 runs against England, will aim to bolster his team’s performance. Both Sharma and Kohli have since retired from T20Is, adding an intriguing layer to the series.
The T20I matches will take place in various cities: Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai, following the opening match in Kolkata. After the T20Is, the teams will face off in three ODIs scheduled for February 6, 9, and 12 in Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad.
Post-series, India will head to Dubai for the 2025 Champions Trophy, while England will travel to Pakistan. As Buttler leads England in this prestigious tournament, the cricketing world eagerly anticipates the performances of both teams in the upcoming series.
