Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer are aiming to seek a spot in the Indian Test squad for the two-match series against Bangladesh.
New Delhi: Aiming to make a comeback into the Test side against Bangladesh, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer failed to put a show with the bat in their respective first-round Duleep Trophy 2024 matches on Thursday. The Duleep Trophy 2024 holds special significance for all India hopefuls for the BCCI selectors to pick the squad for the two-Test series against Bangladesh, starting later this month. Playing for India A, Pant was caught by Shubman Gill off an Akash Deep delivery for just seven during his 10-ball stay at the crease.
On the other hand, India D skipper Iyer also struggled with the bat before being dismissed for just nine off 16 balls. The right-handed Iyer was caught by wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel off the bowling of Vijaykumar Vyshak. As far as India B are concerned, Musheer Khan is the lone fighter with an unbeaten half-century as none of his teammates could stand in front of India A bowlers.
Besides, Akash Deep, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan took wickets for India A. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also contributed with 30 for India A. On the other hand, India D rode on Axar Patel’s 86 off 116 balls to post 164/10 in 48.3 overs. Coming at No.7, the left-hander played a mature innings and looked all set for a well-deserved hundred. He was dismissed while trying to slog sweep Hrithik Shokeen and was caught by Manav Suthar on the boundary.
