New York: Rohit Sharma was utterly surprised after Virat Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck against the USA in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Following his super run as an opener in the Indian Premier League, Kohli was made to open with Rohit in the T20 World Cup. However, the decision has backfired so far as the former Indian captain has been dismissed for single digits in all three games so far for the Men in Blue.
On Wednesday, Kohli went for a drive against a full-length delivery bowled by the former Mumbai pacer Saurabh Netravalkar as the ball took the edge to Andreis Gous behind the wickets. This is also the first time, Kohli has been dismissed for a duck in a T20 World Cup game. His scores in this edition read 1 (vs Ireland), 4 (vs Pakistan) and 0 (vs USA).
Netravalkar didn’t stop there as he dismissed India captain Rohit Sharma in his second over.

Earlier, pacer Arshdeep Singh was brilliant with the ball while taking four wickets as India restricted the USA to 110/8. Nitish Kumar (27, 23b, 2×4 1×6) batted well in the company of former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson (15, 12b, 1×4, 1×6) after the USA were asked to bat first. For India, Arshdeep (4/9) and Hardik Pandya (2/14) were the best in the park, picking up six wickets between them.
Meanwhile, whoever wins between India and USA, will secure their spot for Super 8 stage. Both India and USA have won both their matches in the T20 World Cup 2024 so far.
