Following the win, Suryakumar revealed that he loves to train with Virat Kohli.
Barbados: Suryakumar Yadav was an important member of the Indian squad that won the T20 World Cup 2024. He played a couple of crucial knocks during the tournament and showed exemplary fitness to take one of the finest catches of the marquee event. He took the catch of David Miller in the final over and that seemed to be the final nail in the coffin as India won the game by seven runs. Following the win, Suryakumar revealed that he loves to train with Virat Kohli.
“I had told the strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai to keep my training time along with his. Because sometimes there are days when I don’t feel like training or my body is tiring or mentally I’m not ready. So by watching him those 40 minutes will pass by in the gym,” SKY said in an interview to The Indian Express.
“In 2022, when I made my debut, I did most of the batting with him during the bilateral series and then the World Cup. I realised then that if I have to bat with Virat Kohli, I have to match his fitness because he takes two quick runs by pushing a ball in the gaps and then he slams a four,” he said further.
Meanwhile, Kohli, who was woefully out of form in throughout the tournament, came good in the final when the chips were down. Kohli hit a brilliant 59-ball 76* to help India post a decent 176 for seven. That eventually proved to be good enough as India broke their title drought.
