Charith Asalanka-led Sri Lanka will aim to whitewash New Zealand in the three-match ODI series when the two sides face off in the final game set to take place at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, November 19.
Sri Lanka will complete a 3-0 ODI series whitewash against New Zealand then the two sides go head-to-head in the third and final one-day match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday (November 19). Charith Asalanka’s side have already clinched the series after winning the first ODI by 45 runs (DLS method) and the second one by 3 wickets after both the games were hit by rain.
The Lankans had to battle hard for their win in the second ODI after New Zealand off-spinner Michael Bracewell claimed a four-wicket haul to reduce them to 93 for 5 and 132 for 6 in their chase of 210 runs in 47 overs. However, an unbeaten 74 by wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis and useful contributions by bowlers Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana helped them complete a series win.
It was Mendis once again who led the charge in the first ODI, scoring 143 off 128 balls and coupled with a century by Avishka Fernando helped the home side post 324 for 5 after batting first. New Zealand were never in the hunt after needing 221 to win in 27 overs.
Earlier, the T20I series had ended in a 1-1 draw between the two sides.
