New Delhi: India’s star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal once again proved his worth as the young batter achieved a historic milestone during the first day of the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai on Thursday, September 19. Jaiswal delivered a resilient performance while India kept losing wickets at regular intervals and smashed a half-century. Jaiswal’s fifty made him the first batter in 147 years to smash more than 750 runs in his first 10 innings at home. Previously, the record was held by West Indies’ George Headley, who gathered 747 runs back in 1935.

Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud shook the India batting lineup with four key wickets, reducing the hosts to 176/6 at tea on the opening day of the first Test in Chennai on Thursday.
Hasan justified his skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s decision to bowl first in overcast conditions, striking early with three wickets and adding another after lunch.
In a thrilling change of fortune, Ravindra Jadeja (7*) and Ravichandran Ashwin (21*) were holding for India at the second break.
The tourists, leaving Karachi with a 2-0 sweep in the Test series against Pakistan, are now eyeing to win their maiden Test against India.
Hasan Mahmud shattered India’s top order, having the visiting team’s skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for six runs each as the home side reeled at 34-3 within an hour of play.
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 56, tried to stabilize the innings with a 62-run partnership with fellow left-hander Rishabh Pant, who has played Test cricket after a serious car accident in 2022. Pant looked impressive with a 39-run knock, which had six boundaries. However, Hasan broke the partnership in the third over after lunch when Pant was caught behind off a loose shot.
Jaiswal scored his half-century but eventually became a victim of Bangladesh’s emerging pace talent Nahid Rana. Spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz furthered the problem for India, with KL Rahul falling to him for 16.
Hasan’s early spell of 3-14 put India on the back foot right from the start, starting with Rohit’s dismissal at second slip. Shubman Gill also survived only eight deliveries before being caught behind for a duck while trying to play a flick down the leg side.
Kohli walked into a wave of applause but it disappeared in a flash as he edged a length delivery from Hasan outside the off-stump, providing a simple catch to the wicketkeeper Litton Das.
Virat Kohli was disappointed to be away as India had clinched their 4-1 home series victory over England in March, thanks in part to the fact that he had taken leave to be with his wife for the birth of their second child.
